Audience Feedback

Audience Research Focus Group - Media Studies
Name: Grace Robinson 10.4
Ask three potential audience members. The focus must be on your design, not the idea for the film.
Write their responses below.
•          •          •          •            •             •          •         •          •            •          •          •         •          •
From reading the synopsis for the film, what genre of film do you think it is?  Please give reasons for your answer.

1. Horror/Thriller/Action

2. Zombie/Action

3. Action/Adventure/Zombie

What impression do you get regarding the possible cover for the film? Think about what you would normally expect on a d for this kind of film.

1. The main characters and possibly zombies. A ruined city.

2. The main characters in mid-action, may be fighting the zombies or struggling to cross somewhere.

3. Zombies, Dark shadows, the characters, snapshots from the film showing the audience what the zombies look like and how they act.

What are your first impressions of the DVD cover?  Please consider the following in your answer: Choice of image / choice of fonts / colour scheme used / page layout.

1.The title stands out from the picture and the picture is good because it gives the sense of danger because she is peering around a door and it’s not so full. It seems a little cluttered at the back, but overall it’s good. You could make the synopsis a bit more brief and short to engage the readers. Colours are good because you have the red that could demonstrate blood, and the black to make it seem dangerous.

2. The title is a good font because it’s what you’d normally see on a zombie kind of film. The colours are good because it’s dark and it seems quite eery to the audience. You could change the amount of writing you have on the back cover though.

3. The colours are good because it gives you a sort of sense of what the film is going to be like and how it would make you feel. The front image is good because it isn’t really full. It’s simple, yet effective.

From your knowledge of the synopsis, do you think the cover drafts suit the film?  Please give reasons with regards to the designs.

1. Yes, because everything used in the cover gives you the sense of what the film is going to be like and it shows tension, eeriness and everything that would be used in that kind of film.

2. The images match the synopsis of the film.

3. Everything matches what would be in a film with that synopsis. It shows you many different things, and they all give you the sense of thriller/horror.

Overall, the feedback I got was positive. Most of the suggestions were what I had in my DVD cover draft and after reading the suggestions on what I could improve, I changed the amount of writing on the back of my DVD draft on Photoshop. Most of the comments made about my DVD cover were that all the images and text fonts that I used matched the type of film that I was doing.
